A. 명확한 무엇이나 사람
- What is the name of this street?(도로 이름은 하나밖에 없으므로)
- Who is the best player on you team?
- My office is on the first floor.(빌딩 안의 첫 번째 층)
B. the same... same은 단독으로 쓰일 수 없다.
- We live on the same street.(We live on same street)
- "Are these tow books different?" "No, they're the same."(No, they're same.)
C.
a. 태양, 달, 세계, 하늘, 바다, 시골(the sun/the moon/the world/the sky/the ocean/the sea/the country)
- The sky is blue and the sun is shining
- Do you live in a city or in the country?
b. 경찰관(the police)
- After the robbery, the police asked us a lot of questions.
c. 위쪽, 아래쪽, 왼쪽, 오른쪽, 중앙(the top/the bottom/the left/the right/the middle)
- Write your name at the top of the page.
- The table is in the middle of the room.
d. 악기(the piano/the guitar/the trumpet)
- Paula is learning to play the piano.
e. 라디오(the radio)
- I listen to the radio a lot.

D. the를 안 쓰는 경우
a. 텔레비전(television/TV)

※ Can you turn off the TV라고 사용할 수 있다.
b. 아침, 점심, 저녁(breakfast/lunch/dinner)
- What did you have for breakfast?(the breakfast)
c. next/last + 주/월/년/계절/요일(week/month/year/summer/Monday) 등
- I'm not working next week.(I'm not working the next week)
- Did you take a vacation last summer?(Did you take a vacation the las summer?)
